Status and roadmap

What DurgX is, and the order it is being built in.

Important

This is the build order, not a release calendar. Dates are not promised.

DurgX is built in an order that proves each layer before relying on it.

  1. Boot and diagnostics: boot from the bootloader, serial output and a crash report with a backtrace.
  2. Memory: physical memory manager and permanent page tables.
  3. Entering the kernel: the system call entry path.
  4. Permissions: the capability system and memory retyping.
  5. First scheduler and messages: one core, simple tasks, synchronous messages.
  6. Many cores: bring up all CPU cores and add work stealing.
  7. Rings and the first driver: asynchronous rings and a virtual block driver, with crash and restart tests.
  8. File system and programs: a file system server, demand paging and loading programs.
  9. Linux compatibility: the POSIX shim, starting with static musl programs.
  10. Tuning: NUMA awareness, real-time scheduling and GPU support.
