Run in a virtual machine
The fastest and safest way to try DurgX.
We test DurgX with QEMU, a free virtual machine program for Windows, macOS and Linux. Other virtual machine programs may work, but they are not verified yet.
The command
terminal
qemu-system-x86_64 -cdrom durgx.iso -smp 4 -m 512M -nographic| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
-cdrom durgx.iso | Boots the virtual machine from the DurgX image. |
-smp 4 | Gives the machine 4 CPU cores. The reference setup uses 4. Try -smp 1 if you have trouble. |
-m 512M | Gives it 512 MB of memory. The reference setup uses 512 MB. |
-nographic | Shows the serial console in your terminal instead of opening a window. |
-enable-kvm | Linux only. Uses hardware acceleration so it runs faster. |
Using a window instead of the terminal
Replace -nographic with -serial stdio. A QEMU window opens for the screen, and boot messages still print in your terminal.
Leaving QEMU
In -nographic mode press Ctrl-A, release, then X. In a window, close it.
